Before being selected by NASA to become an Education Specialist in 2005, Rick Varner served for 25 years in the educational community of Gainesville, Florida. He taught general science, life science, and physical science in the middle grades 6-8, directed the science and health curriculum at the district level, directed the regional science and engineering fair competitions and, as an assistant principal served as the team lead for one of NASA's inaugural Explorer Schools.
Rick is an alumnus of the several NASA educational programs and has been supporting NASA's educational efforts since 1987. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Masters in Education Administration and Supervision. Rick is also a longtime member of the National Science teachers Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
