Summer of Innovation
Julie Muffler is an Aerospace Education Curriculum Specialist assigned to NASA's Summer of Innovation. She is a member of the Aerospace Education Services Project (AESP) employed by the Pennsylvania State University. In this role, she works with the national Summer of Innovation partners to design and implement out-of-school experiences for youth across the United States which develop skills and foster career interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through the use of NASA's educational activities and resources. Central to this role is the development and facilitation of educator professional development workshops, webinars, and online courses.
Having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Christopher Newport University and a Master of Science degree from Indiana University, Julie began her career with sixteen years teaching in the public schools. She participated in the early stages of implementation of a statewide distance learning project and received a certificate in Distance Learning from Indiana University. In 1991 she was selected as a member of the Challenger Center International Faculty. She served as the director of five Challenger Learning Centers across the nation over the course of fifteen years and as Deputy Director for NASA's Aerospace Education Service Project, Penn State University from 2009 - 2010.
